ACCESSIBILITY

 

The City of Ghent and De Lijn will do anything to ensure accessibility of the Gentse Winterfeesten remains as optimal as possible. Please find all options to get to the Gentse Winterfeesten below:

 

 

By foot

Those who live in and around Ghent city centre are advised to walk to the Gentse Winterfeesten. 

No need to look for a space to park your car or bike. Gent-Dampoort train station is at walking distance from the city centre.

Using the Wandelbus

Are you less able to walk? In that case, you can use the ‘Walking Bus’ or Wandelbus. Three small electrical buses take you through the town centre via a set route. Simply raise your hand to ask the driver to pick you up, and you ride along for free.

During the Winterfeesten, the Wandelbus will be driving around daily, on Sunday also (since every Sunday in December and Sunday January 7th are Shopping Sunday).

  • The Wandelbus operates each day between 11 am and 11 pm (approximately every quarter of an hour)  
  • On December 24th and December 31st, the Wandelbus stops exceptionally at 6 pm
  • On December 25th and January 1st, the Wandelbus will not operate

By bike

Getting to the Gentse Winterfeesten quick and cheap? Take the bike.

Bike parking Korenmarkt underneath the Sint-Michiels bridge has space for 210 bikes. You can enter the bike parking by foot or bike via the Pakhuisstraat, next to the old Post Building.

Bike parking Braunplein underneath the Stadshal can house 80 bikes. You can also rent a bike here, register your own bike for free or have some small maintenance jobs done. This bike parking is accessible via the ‘green’ at the Emile Braunplein.

Extra bike parking will be installed in the Limburgstraat.

Bikes that have not been stalled appropriately will be removed.

By public transport

De Lijn

De Lijn is a perfect choice to get you to the Gentse Winterfeesten; during the Gentse Winterfeesten, all normal travel tickets are valid, such as bus subscriptions or the Lijnkaart. Night buses will also ensure you can get to the Gentse Winterfeesten with ease. For all information and timetables, please go to https://www.delijn.be/en/.

 

NMBS

The train will take you to Ghent in no time at all, from many other places. Gent-Dampoort station is at walking distance from the city centre. Please visit www.belgianrail.be for more information and timetables.

By motorbike

When you come to the Gentse Winterfeesten by motorbike, you can park your motorbike here: 

  • Bij Sint-Jacobs
  • Drabstraat

Car + public transport

Park your car at a free park-and-ride (P+R) and then take the tram or bus to the Gentse Winterfeesten.

Every park-and-ride parking is equipped with a bike parking area. Moreover, all park-and-ride areas are part of the Donkey Republic sharing bikes network.  You can rent your bike using the Donkey Republic app on your smartphone. More info via https://www.donkey.bike.

Are you coming from Eeklo, Evergem, Lovendegem, Waarschoot, Zelzate… the P+R at   Weba/Decathlon (with a free shuttle to the town centre), P+R Bourgoyen or P+R Neptunus are your best options.

In case you arrive from Lochristi, Lokeren, Sint-Niklaas… you best choose P+R Oostakker or P+R Gentbrugge Arsenaal.

You live in Aalst, Wetteren, Zottegem? Your best option is P+R Expo/The Loop or P+R Gentbrugge Arsenaal.

You arrive n Ghent from Aalter, Nevele, Deinze, De Pinte, Sint-Martens-Latem… then park your car at P+R Watersportbaan or P+R Bourgoyen.

You travel from Gavere, Oudenaarde, Merelbeke, then leave your car at P+R Expo/The Loop or P+R Hekers. 

EXPO/THE LOOP (186 parking spots) - Henri Crombezlaan, 9051 Sint-Denijs-Westrem

Free parking

Public transport: tram 1, bus N1

From Antwerp (E17): Take exit R4/Expo-The Loop at the Zwijnaarde interchange, then follow directions Expo/The Loop.

From Kortrijk (E17): at the E17 interchange, take the E40 direction Oostende, following signage for Expo/The Loop.

From Brussel or Oostende (E40): take exit14 direction Expo/The Loop.

The free parking is situated at the opposite side of the tram stop. There you can take tram 1 or night bus N1 via the Sint-Pietersstation, direction Korenmarkt.

 

BOURGOYEN (250 parking spots) - Driepikkelstraat 30, 9030 Mariakerke

Free parking

Public transport: bus 3, N3

From the R4, take exit N9 Eeklo/Mariakerke. Follow direction Gent (N9). After almost 1 km, go left direction Mariakerke/Wondelgem. Then go right direction Mariakerke. After approximately 2.5 km, go right direction P+R.

 

WATERSPORTBAAN (230 parking spots) - Zuiderlaan 13, 9000 Gent.

Free parking + free shuttle direction city centre, stop Kouter.

Public transport: busd 38, 39

From the R4 inner ring: take exit E40/N466/Blaarmeersen. Take the first exit on the right (Blaarmeersen). You’ll see the P+R on the left. From the R4 outer ring/N466: take exit Gent N466/Blaarmeersen. Once across the bridge, follow direction Blaarmeersen. Take the second on the right, follow Blaarmeersen. After you arrive at the Zuiderlaan, you will find the P+R on your left hand side.

The times you can take the shuttle are as follows:

Exceptions to these times:

  • On December 24th: till 6:30 pm
  • On December 25th: from 2 pm to 11 pm (every 30 mins)
  • On December 31st: till 4 am (every 30 mins)
  • On January 1st: from 2 pm till 12 pm (every 30 mins)

GENTBRUGGE ARSENAAL (200 parking spots) - Brusselsesteenweg, 9050 Gentbrugge

Free parking

Public transport: tram 2, bus N2

From the E17n take exit 10. At the N9, drive direction Melle. At the tram stop near the parking, take tram 2 (Schooldreef stop).

 

OOSTAKKER (200 parking spots) - Oude Bareel, 9041 Oostakker

Free parking

Public transport: bus 17, 18, 76, 77, 78, N17

From the R4, take exit 3 Oostakker. Then follow the N70 (Antwerpsesteenweg) direction Gent. The P+R is situated at the shopping centre “Oude Bareelstraat”.

 

NEPTUNUS (148 parking spots) - Botestraat 98 and Blauwstraat, 9032 Wondelgem

Public transport: tram 1, bus N1

From the R4, take exit Wondelgem. At the next crossroads with traffic lights, take right. After 1 km, go right again (just after the railway crossing).

  

HEKERS (68 parking spots) - Ter Linden 29, 9052 Zwijnaarde

Public transport: tram 2, bus 70, 71, N2

From N60, follow N469 (Tramstraat) direction Merelbeke. At the junction with Heerweg Noord, go right and follow the tram line. At the terminus of the tram, take right; you’ll find the P+R on your right hand side.

 

MUIDE (50 parking spots) - Pauwstraat 10, 9000 Gent

From the R4, take direction N424/N456. The P+R is located straight after the roundabout, via the Pauwstraat.

Accessible via the E40, the E17 and the N9 (Brusselsesteenweg).

  

WONDELGEM (46 parking spots) - Liefkensstraat 39-45, 9032 Wondelgem

Public transport: tram 1, bus N1

From R4, at the exit Wondelgem.

 

MAALTEBRUGGEPARK (40 parking spots) - Maaltebruggepark, 9000 Gent

From N43 (Kortrijksesteenweg), take exit R4 at Maalte/Don Bosco. The P+R is located on the right hand side.  
From the R4 outer ring, take exit N43. The P+R is located on the left hand side.

 

MARIAKERKE POST (25 parking spots) - Brugsesteenweg, 9030 Mariakerke

Free parking, bike parking under the bridge

Public transport: bus 3, 6, 9, N3

From the R4, take exit N9 Eeklo/Mariakerke. Follow Gent (N9). After almost 1 km, go left direction Mariakerke/Wondelgem. Then take right, direction Mariakerke across the bridge. Just past the bridge, the P+R is located on your left hand side. 
From Eeklo (N9): Follow Gent (N9). After approximately 1 km, go left direction Mariakerke/Wondelgem. Then take right, direction Mariakerke across the bridge. Just past the bridge, the P+R is located on your left hand side. 

 

GALVESTON (250 parking spots) - Hurstweg 8, 9000 Gent

Paid parking (0 - 1.5 hour: free; 1.5 hour - 4 hours: € 1.00; 4 hours - 24 hours: € 2.00)

Public transport: bus 55, 57, 58

From R4 direction Zelzate: right exit N456 (Zeeschipstraat). Just before Meulestedebrug, turn right onto the N458 (Wondelgemkaai-Wiedauwkaai). Turn right just before the railway crossing.
From R4 direction Eeklo-Gent-N9-E40-E17: left exit N456 (Zeeschipstraat). Just before Meulestedebrug, turn right onto the N458 (Wondelgemkaai-Wiedauwkaai). Turn right just before the railway crossing.
 

 B-Parking Sint-Pieters station:

Apart from the P+R options listed here, you can also use the underground paid parking at the Sint-Pieters station. This parking boasts 1,580 parking places as well as 47 spots for disabled people, 9 places for Cambio cars and 6 spots for electric vehicles (with loading infrastructure). This station is serviced by all city centre lines and nightly public transport N1, N2, N4, N70, N76. GPS coordinates Parking entry: 51.036135; 3.704544 - Gent Sint-Denijslaan. The underground parking is directly accessible via the Valentin Vaerewyckweg and the Timichegtunnel. This new road possibly has not been included yet in all route planners and GPS systems.

Parking garages operated by the city: 

Parking garage Vrijdagmarkt – Follow P1

Under the Vrijdagmarkt, you can find 648 parking spots; including 3 parking spots for disabled people.

 

Parking garage Reep – Follow P2

This parking garage has space for 484 vehicles, with 3 parking spots for disabled people. There are also 2 loading points for electric cars.

 

Parking garage Savaanstraat – Follow P4

There are 588 parking spots, with 3 parking spots for disabled people.

 

Parking garage Sint-Michiels – Follow P7

This parking counts 472 parking spots, including 3 parking spots for disabled people and 2 loading points for electric cars.  

 

Parking garage Ramen – Follow P8

This garage boasts 280 places including 3 parking spots for disabled people.

 

Parking garage Sint-Pietersplein – Follow P10

This parking has space for 700 vehicles, as well as 3 parking spots for disabled people and 2 loading points for electric cars. 

  

Private parking garages:

Parking Zuid – Follow P3

This parking is situated underneath the Gent Zuid Shopping Centre and Woodrow Wilsonplein, boasting 1,034 parking spots, including 2 spaces for disabled people.  

 

Parking Kouter – Follow P5

This parking has space for 425 cars, of which 8 for disabled people and 1 loading point for electric vehicles.

 

Centerparking – Follow P6

This parking is located very near to the Veldstraat and has 532 parking places.

Taxi

These are some of the locations where you will find a taxi rank:

  • Drabstraat
  • Bij Sint-Jacobs
  • Vlasmarkt
  • The taxi ranks at Pakhuisstraat will not be available and are relocated to Sint-Michielsplein.

A taxi will get you home safe and sound at a reasonable rate. Please visit www.stad.gent/taxi for more information.

Parking for less able people

All around the pedestrian zone, but also close to the city centre, you will find several free parking spaces reserved for less able and disabled people, also in a paid parking or blue zone.

Free parking however is not available in the underground parkings. 

Please take care: a disabled card does not allow you to park on reserved spots for residents.
